Life of Pi is a fine movie and tries to stay true to the book. The movie stuns us with its visual effects in 3D and makes the imperfections slip without notice. There are few things that one might feel bothersome but would eventually forgive or forget once they immerse themselves into the movie. Let me list down what bothered me but they definitely did not spoil the movie:
- There are different variant of Indian accent for the same character. And the most obvious one is of Pi’s. The role is played by four different actors and the accent changes with every actor. There is also inconsistency in the accent of Adult Pi played by Irrfan Khan. He starts off with Paandicherry and goes to Pandicherry and finishes at Pondicherry.
- The movie runs for 127 minutes, which is lengthier. But given the subject of the movie, 127 minutes is not enough to justify the book. One cannot avoid feeling that the scenes, especially the ones before the ship wreck, are incomplete and are finished in haste.
- The movie is filled with voice over. The story is narrated by older Pi, but at times it seems that things are told to us rather than letting us experience them.
Nevertheless Life of Pi is a great experience to watch and would remain as one of the most memorable movie.
