Now we can be proud of being Officially Casteist. I do not understand why would India oppose a draft that recognizes Caste based discrimination as human rights violation? The only reason I can see is ‘Votes’.
It won’t be wrong if I say that caste runs in our blood. A three year old is asked to write down his/her caste in the school admission form. Though we talk a lot about abolishing(???) castes, we never implement it. Politicians are allowed to contest in election based on their caste, the latest trend is to start a political party based on caste and surprisingly the bigger parties fall for them so they do not lose that particular caste votes.
Students are given admission to higher education based on caste. Though the reservation was introduced for upliftment, it has now been abused and misused by many. It is time to reform the reservation method we have today. And it should not be given based on caste.
Indians are one with large Diaspora, and we take our castiest mindset where ever we go. I guess there is no reason for India to oppose the UN draft, because now the issue is not only confined to the sub continent. It is clearly seen that where ever Indians go, we take this dirty thing out with us.
We try to act as South Asia’s big brother(???), but in reality other nations around us are working efficiently to eradicate these age old myths or I would say foolishness. It has to be noticed that, Nepal has accepted for the UN draft that considers caste based discrimination as human rights violation and also Nepal decriminalized homosexuality two years before India did. I remember the hare and tortoise story that I read long back.
The worst of all is that, we believe and make people believe that discriminating one in the name of caste is absolutely ones right.
Another huge mistake that is done today is that in the name of reformation, the political parties(caste based) create hatred towards other castes. At the end of the day, people of all castes are discriminated by one another. But it is the poor and the under privileged that has to go through a lot.
We are very quick in pointing out other nations for being racists, but we fail to acknowledge the ones that happens in our home. I do not find any good reason why India should oppose the UN draft on this issue, and it is foolishness if India says that this is an internal issue.
We have never been sensitive towards human rights violation in our country, and this cannot continue for the sake of self centered political moves or for power hunger individuals.
